Malhanito

GPS track – Walking-in-Algarve – Tavira (TAV PR6)

 5.6 mi.  Difficult   179m Feiteira

Malhanito walk (TAV PR6) is a 5.6 mile quite difficult circular walk, starting in Feiteira north of Tavira. We have not walked this route ourselves and thus we cannot give any information, based on personal experience.

The GPStrack can be downloaded on this page and we have translated, as good as possible, the PDF file that is offered to you by Taira municipality.

Malhanito walk (TAV PR6) can be divided in three parts.

  1. FEITEIRA – FONTE FÉRREA (1.2 mi; maximum elevation 504 m)

Malhanito walk starts at the Centro do Descobertain Feiteira  and heads towards Cachopo via the EN 124, (eastbound). After 1 km of asphalt road, you will find a dirt track on the right. Here you enter the forest. These first miles are relaxed.  Enjoy the clean air and you can drink from one of the accessible wells along this path. There is also the possibility to visit an old grave. This is one of the greenest and richest forest areas in the Algarve

  1. CERRO DA PORTELA DA BICA (1.8 mi; maximum elevation 541 m)

Start the climb towards Cerro da Portela da Bica, to a height of about 440 meters. Don´t forget to pay attention to the world around you while climbing; the flora and all the birds that surround you are really worth noticing.

  1. MALHANITO – FEITEIRA (1.9 mi; maximum elevation 541 m)

At the end of this section of the trail you will find yourself one of the highest hills in the area: the Malhanito. This is a panoramic spot with a magnificent view over the entire region. From this point, the economic importance of the thousands of cork oaks in the region can be clearly seen. Continue the walk, leaving the dirt roads and entering the old asphalt road that connects Feiteira to Castelão. Head north to Feiteira. Here too, the simple beauty of this rural region with its small farming communities is everywhere. Stroll back to Feiteira.
