GPS route – Walking-in-Algarve – Tavira (TAV PR13)

 8 mi.  Difficult   158m Umbria

Morenos walk (TAV PR13) is an eight mile, quite difficult circular GPS walk from the municipality of Tavira. For us it is the nearest “real mountain walk” to bed and breakfast Cas al Cubo we can offer our guests of bed and breakfast Cas al Cubo. Roughly, the trail is plotted between the hamlets of Umbria and Fornalha in the middle part of the Tavira area.

Morenos walk starts at the bridge over the Alportel river in Umbria is where the walk starts. The first part shows interesting river vegetation, lots of birds life and even a sometimes a turtle or snake. Don’t linger too long because the walk will take some time. In the Morenos walk, two hills have to be conquered. The reward is of course always an amazing view from the summit, both towards the Serra and the coast line.

Wild fires

The huge wild fires of 2012 have scorched over 12,000 square mile of traditional mountain vegetation. Now, a little more then eight years later, the amazing flexibility of nature can clearly be seen. The hills are beautifully green and full of life again and only small reminders of the inferno remain.

Morenos walk passes the hamlets of Carcavaia, Casas Altas and Malhada do Rico where one or the other sleepy villager wil give you an incredulous look. This trail really offers the atmosphere of the traditional rural Algarve and its mountain inhabitants.
